Welcoming the New VSNA Dallas Chapter Committee for 2025-26

Sharanu Dallas Chapter Members,

It fills heart with immense pride to see the remarkable growth of our Dallas Chapter, which joyfully celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year and has now flourished into a vibrant community of more than 130 dedicated members. Equally inspiring is the enthusiasm and willingness of our members to step forward and serve our chapter through leadership roles.

In response to our call for nominations, we received six outstanding candidates, each eager to contribute to the continued success of our chapter:

  • Jyothi Gireesh – President
  • Anilkumar Yadagiri – Vice President
  • Girish Siddappa – Secretary
  • Rakesh Nandish – Digital Director
  • Swapnil Wale – Vice President/Any Position
  • Channaasappa Soppannavar – Secretary/Digital Director

After thoughtful discussions and the formal nomination withdrawal process, our valued member, Channaasappa Soppannavar, graciously chose to withdraw, expressing a desire to contribute in the future. The remaining candidates, who have been fully qualified and certified in good standing with VSNA, were unanimously elected to their respective positions.

It is with great pleasure that we officially announce the new committee, whose term will begin on January 1, 2025, and extend for two years:

President: Jyothi Gireesh

Vice President: Anilkumar Yadagiri

Secretary: Girish Siddappa

Guru Basavanna – Earn wealth through honest and truthful work

By: Raksha Sarvi

Guru Basavanna once said ”Earn wealth through honest and truthful work” . In this text Basava is talking about how you shouldn’t lie and cheat yourself in your work. Cheating yourself won’t do any good to you other than getting the task done on time. But lying for the sake of it will just store guilt and pressure inside of you. And soon enough you will be caught for slacking off. When you are working think of it as worship, even if you don’t like it.

The vachana Kaḷabēḍa, kolabēḍa, teaches us not to lie and not to steal. The first line Kaḷabēḍa, kolabēḍa, husiya nuḍiyalu bēḍa says do not steal, do not kill and, do not lie. The second line says muniya bēḍa, an’yarige asahya paḍa bēḍa means do not be angry, do not be scornful of others. The third line tanna baṇṇisa bēḍa, idira haḷiyalu bēḍa. This line means do not glorify yourself, do not insult others. The fourth line says idē antaraṅga śudhi, idē bahiraṅga śudhi. It means These are the means to inward purity, these are the means to outward purity. Here it means that this is how you cleanse yourself from being mean and hurtful to others. Finally the last line says idē nam’ma kūḍalasaṅgama devaranolisuva pari. Here, he says that these are the means to please Kudalasangamadeva. He is also saying his pen name.

Anubhava Mantapa in Basavakalyan

The New Anubhava Mantapa, as envisaged now, will be a six-floor structure in the midst of the 7.5-acre plot and represent various principles of Basaveshwara’sphilosophy. It will showcase the 12th Century Anubhava Mantapa (often referred to as the “first Parliament of the world”) established by him in Basavakalyan where philosophers and social reformers held debates. The building will adopt the Kalyana Chalukya style of architecture. The grand structure supported by 770 pillars will have an auditorium with a seating capacity of 770 people. It is believed that 770 Sharanas (followers of Basaveshwara) led the Vachana reformist movement in the 12th Century. The basement is designed for a Dasoha Bhavana (dining hall) where around 1,500 people eat together. On its top, the structure would have a Linga placed on a large pedestal.

Call for volunteers

Om Shri Guru Basava Lingaya Namaha

The search for volunteers to man (or woman) the VSNA Dallas committee continues.

We have had one person who has stepped up so far. Thank you for doing so. We need 3 more.

It would be nice to have a committee at the earliest. Hopefully by Feb 15th.

Since I have not seen self nominations or people stepping forward to volunteer, I guess we will have to start picking some names.

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Niranjan Sarvi
  2. Jyothi Patanshetty
  3. Mallik Shriramgond
  4. Deepti Nagaraj

I hope folks step up and sign up for these roles. We are a small community and the mantle of being a committee member will fall on you at some time or the other. So take the initiative and the lead rather than being cajoled.

Look forward to hearing from you all.

-Basavaraj and Neela

Call for Nominations

Hello VSNA Dallas members,

Hope you are all doing well and staying safe. We are well into the new year and its time to nominate a new slate for the committee.

First of all thank you to the 2019-2021 outgoing committee.

Raksha Halliyur, Ramya Ashok, Rashmi Kottur and Madhu Chinivar steered the Dallas chapter over the last two years and we are all grateful for all their time and work and for making the VSNA Dallas chapter better.

Your guidance and mentoring the new committee members will be much appreciated as we move forward.

It is time now for the next committee to guide the chapter.

Neela Kumar and I would like to request nominations for the following committee positions:

  1. President
  2. Vice President
  3. Secretary
  4. Treasurer

The term of this committee will be for 2 years (2021 and 2022).

We would like an equal number of men and women to be represented in this committee.

Please self nominate yourself or recommend people for these positions and we will come to some form of consensus by the end of this month.

We hope to have a new committee in place by the middle of February or Shivaratri at the latest.

I encourage people to be proactive and step up to serve. After all this is your chapter and we are all part of the community. This is after all a community effort and everyone is expected to play a role one way or another.

Hopefully with the vaccination campaign now under way, we look forward to the day when we can all meet in person and celebrate.

Thank you

Basavaraj and Neela
